Presented by GoBowling.com Military Bowl Game on Saturday in Annapolis – Virginia Tech vs. Tulane

The Military Bowl – maybe the only bowl with a name that stays relatively consistent. This season, it features one team that has mightily struggled out of conference and didn’t feature a strong win on the season – and another that narrowly missed a New Year’s Six Bowl. We’ll start with the 6-6 Virginia Tech Hokies, then discuss the Tulane Green Wave.

Virginia Tech defeated Old Dominion to begin the season, then subsequently lost to Purdue, Rutgers and Marshall. They failed to score 18 or more points in every loss excluding their 35-28 defeat at the hands of the NC State Wolfpack. The only mainstay sitting out of this game for the Hokies is Derrick Canteen, who amassed 42 total tackles, 5 passes defensed and hauled in an INT this season. Honorable mention to Dae’Quan Wright – he hauled in 28 balls for 366 yards this season – but failed to find paydirt.

The main story here involves the 11-2 Tulane Green Wave. Junior QB Michael Pratt, who threw for 2,406 yards and 22 scores this season, has elected to opt-out of this game. WR Chris Brazzell has also opted to enjoy bowl season off the field, and this combo had 5 TD hookups this season. TE Alex Bauman has also elected to sit out, which detracts a total of 10 of Pratt’s 22 TD passes this season. For a team that only lost to Ole Miss until their conference title game, this is a huge blow.

Given these extenuating circumstances and the immense level of talent sitting out for the 1949 SEC Champion Tulane Green Wave, I’d hammer VA Tech and the cover. Most books have them at -10 right now, and it’s hard to see Tulane getting up for this game with all the opt-outs and future career focus.

How to bet this Bowl Game

This combined with the disappointment of losing to SMU for a shot at a NY6 Bowl is a recipe for disaster. Tech wins 31-17.
